During the boring written review, did you really prepare and look up the answers beforehand, or did you just write anything down or did you copy the superdub sitting next to you? Personally I just wrote any old thing down and ticked it as right when they read out the answers. However when I was growing up I had to get loads right or I would face questions from my mum!

Interesting thought from you Greendawn. I've never looked at it that way before. My father was bought up in the protestant stronghold of east Belfast and I know that to this day there are divisions amongst the Witto's there as to which side of 'the divide' they come from Anyway, my dad (who has been an elder ever since the elder arrangement started) and my super spiritual mum have totally shunned me - we have not spoken for well over 4 years. On the other hand, my wife Bubble's parents are of Greek Cypriot extraction. Ok they don't come round to our house but Bubble does go round to theirs. and her mum texts her quite regularly. In fact if she hasn't been round to their house for a while they get quite upset. I thought they were perhaps being spiritually weaker than my mum and dad, but perhaps it just is a different perspective arising from a different background. Thanks Greendawn. SAB

Who, on this board, go to church now???
by mama1119 ini wondered how many abandoned going to any kind of church.
or, if there are some who go to a church now.
was it weird at first to go?

Absolutely no chance of me going to church! Mind you I have visited Canterbury Cathedral since I left being a Witto - even doing that seemed strange. Fantastic building and if push came to shove I would always ally myself towards the protestant, Church of England view.

What's the point of quick build KH,s
by moomanchu in.
the only reason i can see for them to ever been done is for the publicity?
quick builds remind me of extreme makeovers home edition.. do what ever it takes to get your ratings up..

I wasn't very good at doing anything manual but i did end up with a very important job on the local quick build - I was the official photographer!!!
There I was with my hard hat on being all serioius, getting the angles right etc.
I remember someone saying that I hada an easy job, I told them that it was a very serious job and required a lot of patience and skill. Problem was I believed my own spin! -

Kids under the age of 18 who get baptized...
by WTFBBQPWNT inshould be allowed to revisit their decision and either revoke or keep their baptism.
this is too major of a decision to be placed in the hands of minors.
the mental anguish that can result from it is something that kids should be protected against.. how would one even start the process of getting this passed as a law?
-

Why don't they follow the example of Jesus and only allow people to get baptized after they are 30 years old?
That would solve soooo many problems.
Zico, we are feeling your dilemna, but just to let you know that I have been out for over 4 years, my whole family are in and have been for over 50 years, but I personally am very very happy.

Slightly off the thread I know, but my father was not allowed to give talks at district conventions years ago because he had a beard.
Nobody told him the reason he was dropped until he asked. He had to grow the beard due to a dental abcess - he was told that if he cut himself whilst shaving it could kill him.
So maybe better to die clean shaven and be able to give talks - it's a weird world! -

Did your Kingdom hall ever cancel meetings?
by moshe inwe were building a new kh- not quick build- and we had to vacate the old building and the new kh was not finished.
the elders decided to cancel all the meeting with the exception of the tuesday night bookstudy in homes.
we had no other meetings for about 4-5 weeks.

I agree whole heartedly with Solo.
Quite often (especially when I was the on who arranged the public talks!) the speaker didn't turn up.
Then we had the watchtower study first, then a local elder would stand in and give a talk.
It usually ended up being the same elder time after time giving it and because he hadn't had any practice and it ended up being sooooo boring!
Also as Solo said, when the Watchtower had finised your brain would tell you that it was time to go - then you had this horrible sinking feeling when you realised that you had a whole public talk to sit through. Also the stand in sometimes went overtime because he hadn't practised - a double whammy!! -

THE BIG A: RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER.
by Mary inwhere did all the witnesses over the decades get the idea that armageddon was right around the corner?
the society certainly never put anything like that down in print:
*** w56 10/15 p. 614 when will gods kingdom come?

I remember hearing at the meeting that we were on the last lap of an endurance race, Armageddon was not just round the corner because we were indeed on the 'final straight'.
Don't know about you, but I've never watched an athletic event where the last lap is way way longer than all the other laps put together! -

I remember that my dad used to go into the study, shut the door and say he was using the WT library cd for research.
It's dawning on me now that perhaps he was 'lurking' on sites like this!
